This morning the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, the host club of Australia’s premier ocean yacht race, received its first application for entry for the 2007 Rolex Sydney Hobart after the notice of race was posted online over the weekend.
Owned by West Australian businessman Alan Brierty and called Limit, the Corby 49 which contested the 2006 Rolex Sydney Hobart race as Flirt, is ramping up for a busy summer of sailing.
Fittingly, a photo of the boat taken during the 2006 Rolex Sydney Hobart was chosen for the front cover of the online notice of race. |

Taken during the 2006 Rolex Trophy Ratings Series, the Corby 49 that
is now Alan Brierty's Limit, was then Chris Dare's Flirt.

| As
well as contesting all the CYCA’s major events including the upcoming
Audi Sydney Gold Coast and Audi Sydney Mackay yacht races, Brierty and
sailing master Roger Hickman will enter Audi Hamilton Island Race Week
in August, Sailing South Week in Hobart immediately following the Rolex
Sydney Hobart, and Skandia Geelong Week in Victoria in late January 2008. |

| "He is travelling from Perth to Sydney almost weekly to campaign two boats, the Corby and the Sydney 38, and is so enthusiastic about returning to ocean racing he wanted to get his paperwork in as soon as practical so we can get started with our preparation." |

| "The team is very fired up about the approaching season and the competition on the water. Over the last 10 years there has been a sprinkling of good boats of all different sizes but currently we have a top fleet of 45 to 55 footers which are fiercely competitive." |

| "Boats like the two Transpac 52s, Wot Yot and the new Quest, the Cookson 50s Living Doll and Quantum, the new Reichel/Pugh 45 Beau Geste, Hardys Secret Mens Business and XLR8, amongst others, are going to produce some thrilling tussles and hopefully, results that reflect the intensity of the competition in this size range," added Hickman, a veteran of 30 Rolex Sydney Hobarts who stayed with the boat when Chris Dare sold it to Brierty. |

the publication of the Rolex Sydney Hobart notice of race over the weekend,
those intending to enter this year's blue water classic can now submit
an application to enter. |

| "The 628 nautical mile Rolex Sydney Hobart is renowned as one of the most significant and toughest ocean races in the world," said CYCA Commodore Geoff Lavis. |

"It is an Australian sporting calendar icon and each year the race throws out the gauntlet of new challenges to participants."
"On behalf of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, it is my pleasure to invite owners and charterers of eligible boats to participate in the 63rd running of the event which will start from Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day, 26 December."
The Rolex Sydney Hobart will be preceded by the Rolex Trophy to be conducted on the waters off Sydney Heads. The racing for the one design classes, including Farr 40’s, Sydney 38’s, Sydney 32’s and Mumm 30’s will take place between 7 and 9 December 2007 and the IRC and Performance Handicap boats between 13 and 16 December. The Notice of Race for the Rolex Trophy will be published later in the year. |
