Australian M30 champion Bruce Eddington and his Victorian team
on K2 have won their class in the Rolex Trophy One Design Series which wrapped up today. Teams from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland made the most of the opportunity to race off Sydney Heads where the upcoming M30 Australian Championship will be sailed in February next year. "It was a good series", commented Eddington this afternoon. "Win, lose or draw, this regatta was very good practice for the Nationals". Guy Stening’s M30 Optimumm finished second overall after six races ahead of Colin Loel’s Asterix in third and Garry Hobson’s Don’t Tell Mumm in fourth. All four teams will meet again in February for a crack at the Australian title. |

After three days of intense racing, Vincenzo Onorato has won the Farr 40 division
of the Rolex Trophy One Design Series by seven points, capping off a successful year in the class. The eleven boat fleet has enjoyed the company
of the two-time Rolex Farr 40 world champion and his team of ‘Latin rascals’, Mascalzone Latino. "We love Australia and we will come back. The boat (Farr 40) is staying here and I would like to bring my family here for a holiday at the Barrier Reef, so I am forgiven for all my sailing," said Onorato dockside. |

Local Australian teams threw everything they had at the Italians who in the
end were just too strong. Lang Walker's Kokomo, which overnight was just two points behind Mascalzone Latino, managed to maintain their position
on the scoreboard, win the final race and finish second overall on 29 points. "It's been a very tricky three days of racing with some of the best class racing in Australia to date," remarked Walker. "It’s been great to see our two-time class world champion here again. We tried very hard today but just couldn’t get him by the heels," remarked Walker. Third on the Farr 40 pointscore was Ivan Wheen’s Sputnik which also threatened Mascalzone Latino at various stages but couldn’t close the deal on Onorato’s class act. |

Racing was delayed today for both the Sydney 38s and the Farr 40s while the
race committee waited for the breeze to fill in. Then there were three general recalls for the Farr 40s thanks to the unusual northerly running
current which played havoc with the starts. Principal race officer Denis Thompson described today’s racing as difficult, particularly with the current pushing the Farr 40 fleet over at the start, but once the breeze steadied at 12-14 knots out of the nor’east, the racing was "excellent and extremely close" commented Thompson. |

Brett
Neill’s New Zealand team White Cloud saved their best for last, sailing
a fantastic race nine, the final race of the series, to finish second
in front of Mascalzone Latino and eighth overall on the pointscore. Tony Walls’ Acuity managed to hold his lead from yesterday to take out the series for the Sydney 38s, finishing on 18 points ahead of Chris Way’s Easy Tiger and Alan Brierty’s Limit on equal points, 22, Easy Tiger claiming second on a countback. |

“We started our season yesterday and finished today,” joked Walls at this
afternoon’s prizegiving. “It was a great way to come out of moth balls. We only sailed this weekend because one of the crew is moving to New Zealand and
he wanted to do one more regatta”. In the Sydney 38 division, Victorian Lou Abrahams’ Challenge was the best placed of the 38s that are also contesting the Rolex Sydney Hobart in just over two week’s time, finishing seventh. Alan Brierty is also contesting the Rolex Sydney Hobart but with his larger Limit, a Corby 49. Final pointscore: http://www.cyca.com.au/editorial.asp?key=3588 |
