It was so hard for me to believe on the Friday after the luna eclipse, that we had lost Phil. A brilliant man so full of life, love and energy. I woke on Saturday having to call back a friend to see if it was true that he was really gone.

Onto the net I explored only to find nothing from the institution where Phil had devoted more than 25 years of his life. So sad it is that a faculty specialising in humanity studies, seems to have lost all sense of humanity itself.

My sincere condolences to Mary Theresa, Billie, Isaac and Jackson.

IN MEMORY OF PHILLIP D’ALTON

Phillip D’Alton was one of the first lectures I met at The University of Wollongong in 1986. I was one of the many students who where lucky enough to enjoy his “Introduction to Sociology” course. Phil and I became fast friends and over the years we shared many life experiences, particularly after we became collogues in the Department of Sociology.

Phil was an extraordinary teacher as well as a mentor to his many students. This fact really sunk in, when the twenty year old daughter of one of my close friends commented on how wonderful Phil’s lectures were and how students, who were not even enrolled in his classes, attended his lectures. Phillip preformed this magic for almost thirty years. His Students loved and respected him and he returned their love and respect. This was Phillip’s legacy and contribution to his students and the University.

Phillip, I already miss your quick wit, your quirky sense of humor and your meaningful philosophy of life. Over the years you were always a caring, kind and generous friend. Having the honor of being your friend has enriched my life and you will always have a place in my heart. The world will be a little bit sadder and lonelier place without you in it. I miss you old friend, good luck on your new journey, wherever you are?
